Purrumbete Waratah is a son of the famous Purrumbete Highlander. He is an excellent intermediate sire, in that he is better at improving on the progeny of lesser quality females than other higher-rated sires. Put to quality females he produces even better results, increasing the density and crimp and usually bringing down the micron.
He is a good-natured and easily handled male with a strong frame and proud head, which he passes to his offspring. He usually throws to the dam's colour or brings out the grey that may be lurking behind the dam. His last fleece, at 5½ years of age, was tested on 10th January 2000, and was 29.15µm with SD of 4.49 and a CV of 15.4%.
Waratah stood at ‘Airlie’ from February to July every year, and at Kaloma Park Alpacas the remainder of the year. He has now been fully bought by Chris and Geoff Morsby of Kaloma Park Alpacas at Mt Mee in Queensland, and will be available there from mid June 2003. Waratah was our foundation male and has given us excellent results over our older Chileans. He is now nearly 9 years old and the histograms of his progeny are still showing low micron with low CV and SD. Please contact the Morsbys of Kaloma Park for stud services by Waratah.
